All about rosehips for the skin!

Every fall and early winter, I’ll be out picking wild rosehips, just as the fruit has a little give to it. That’s when it’s perfect for collecting. Most people have heard about the benefits of rosehip seed oil, but if you think about it, it’s actually the hip itself that all of the benefits originate from.. the perfect little house to nourish the seeds once fallen on the ground.

There is such an intoxicating scent that comes from the drying of the hips. I’ve truly never encountered anything quite like it and I’m always encouraging my friends to dry their own so that they too can experience this sensory magic. It is truly hours upon hours and days upon days of collecting and drying, then the process of creating the herbal oils. I promise that every minute is worth it, because let me tell you about these little fruits of the rose!

Rosehips are full of vitamin c which acts as an antioxidant, a substance that protects your cells against damage and disease. Not only do they protect but they can also repair your skin after the sun damage and can even reverse signs of aging. They also contain carotenoids, which help keep your skin fresh and healthy by creating new skin cells. Rosehips also contain vitamin e which helps trap moisture in your skin and also is a contributor to protect against sun damage.

Rosehip oil may be helpful in the treatment of acne because of it’s high content of trans retinoic acid, a retinoid that helps with the production of new skin cells. When new skin cells are produced more often, it is less likely that your pores will become clogged. These same retinoids can also help brighten your skin, prevent blackheads and reduce inflammation. Rosehips also contain linoleic acid , a fatty acid that can aide in the prevention of acne and shrink pimples.

These little fruits also contain phenols, chemicals containing antibacterial properties that can assist in the fight against skin conditions such as eczema but also by acting as a skin barrier while moisturizing your skin.

Studies have also shown that rosehips helps to reduce the appearance of scars, stretchmarks and fine lines. Repeated use helped to reduce skin discoloration and lessoned the appearance of scars overall.

All of this is reason enough to spend the days collecting, so that they may be brought to you in a variety of products and options.
